FAQ :

Q1: What is 125°C heat shrink tubing and how is it different from standard heat shrink?

125°C heat shrink tubing is a high-performance, crosslinked polyolefin tubing rated for continuous operation at 125 degrees Celsius — significantly higher than standard PVC heat shrink (typically rated at 70–80°C). The crosslinking process, achieved through high-energy electron beam irradiation, restructures the polymer at a molecular level, resulting in dramatically improved thermal stability, chemical resistance, and mechanical strength. TubeBoot ZH-125 series tubing maintains its shape, flexibility, and insulating properties even after prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures, making it suitable for demanding applications in military, aerospace, and automotive environments where standard heat shrink would soften, crack, or fail.

Q2: What applications is 125°C polyolefin heat shrink tubing suitable for?

TubeBoot 125°C heat shrink tubing is engineered for applications where standard tubing cannot perform reliably. Common use cases include:

  • Military ground vehicle harnesses — resists jet fuel, diesel, hydraulic fluid, and vibration under MIL-grade conditions
  • Motorsport & racing wiring looms — handles the extreme underhood heat of competition engines
  • Aerospace cable protection — lightweight, flame-retardant insulation for avionics and airframe wiring
  • Railway rolling stock — meets flame retardancy requirements for EN 45545 and similar standards
  • Industrial motor & inverter wiring — protects cables near high-heat drive systems and power electronics
  • EV battery harness protection — withstands thermal cycling in high-voltage EV power systems

Its resistance to fuels, oils, and hydraulic fluids[1] makes it a direct functional equivalent to Raychem DR-25 and TE TAT-125 series tubing at a significantly lower cost.

Q3: What shrink ratio options are available, and which should I choose?

TubeBoot 125°C heat shrink tubing is available in both 2:1 and 3:1 shrink ratios:

  • 2:1 ratio — the standard choice for most wire insulation, strain relief, and harness bundling where the wire diameter does not vary significantly. Recovered wall thickness is thinner, making it ideal for weight-sensitive aerospace and motorsport applications.
  • 3:1 ratio — recommended when you need to cover irregular shapes, over connectors or terminals, or when there is a large variation between the expanded and recovered diameter. Provides a tighter, more conforming fit and higher mechanical protection.

If you are unsure which ratio fits your application, contact us with your wire AWG and outer diameter — we will recommend the correct size and ratio.

Q4: Is TubeBoot 125°C heat shrink tubing a direct alternative to Raychem DR-25 or TE TAT-125?

Yes. TubeBoot ZH-125 and ZH-135 series tubing is engineered as a high-performance alternative to Raychem DR-25[2] and TE TAT-125, offering equivalent or superior performance in the following key areas:

Q5: Does TubeBoot 125°C heat shrink tubing meet UL, RoHS, or military specifications?

TubeBoot ZH-125 series polyolefin heat shrink tubing complies with the following standards:

  • UL 224 — Recognized Component, 125°C voltage rating
  • IEC 60684-2 — Flexible insulating sleeving
  • RoHS 2.0 — Free from restricted hazardous substances
  • REACH SVHC — Compliant
